Who said men don’t care about fashion?
These “peacocks” will prove you wrong anywhere on this planet!
everything started very calm and peaceful …
…where we were welcomed by the most extravagant fashion designer I have ever seen in my life!…he even outdid Mr. Karl Lagerfeld who I thought was the number one Mr. Extravagant, with his entourage of 20 young guys dressed in Dior Homme suits and a little fan in his hands…
Chinese mask, mink hair, Top hat…black Steve Jobs worthy turtleneck and David Yurman silver chain…
…Mr. Lai was born into the family of Chinese theater clothes manufacturers in Honk Kong and for the first 10 years of his career he was working there in the TV world as a costumer …which explained his taste for drama.
…and he let us try some of his hats and clothes..
…so that was my morning breakfast adventure
Wasn’t Peter Lai amazing?
Start of the new week!…“Do or do not ..there is no try”…
I was wearing my Galaxy leggings and since the sun was too bright, I ended up looking like an Alien…
my Alien look and my Galaxy leggings reminded me of Star Wars, with it’s cool quotes to start the week…
“The Force will be with you, always.”
… the Force… a Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us.
Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.
You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes….
Even between the land and the ship.”
That was my way to entertain and motivate myself for the start of New Week…I ‘m curious, what do you do to have a Fresh Start on Mondays?
Happy Mothers Day!
Best thing to tell your mom?
If I could choose my mom, I would choose you!
After Mr.Freud, it became our second nature to blame our parents for everything,
from the shape of our nails, to the color of our cars…My wish for Mother’s Day is that we will grow up as a society and gain control of our lives .No more blaming! We can make changes …and as for parents …Just celebrate them! Without them we would not be on this planet
Happy Mothers Day to All MOMS!
Poems are not highly popular these days unless they take the form of lyrics and appear as a song. But there are classics that certainly will withstand the changing times, like the “The Thunder Perfect Mind.”
…Why am I certain?
Because it already did.
I stumbled upon it in one of my favorite perfume ads (my guilty pleasure).
But this was special… the words were puzzling and alluring and seductive and weird.
So I wanted to find out what it was.
The poem was apparently discovered only recently in 1945, but some scholars date it back to 350 C.E. It comes from Alexandria (Ancient Egypt) and talks about a feminine divine nature. It is believed to be about the expression of the goddess Isis .
It is very long, so I will give you just a taste of it.
I was sent forth from the power,
and I have come to those who reflect upon me,
and I have been found among those who seek after me.
Look upon me, who reflect upon me,
and you hearers, hear me.
You who are waiting for me, take me to yourselves.
And do not banish me from your sight.
For I am knowledge and ignorance.
I am shame and boldness.
I am shameless; I am ashamed.
I am strength and I am fear.
I am war and peace.
Give heed to me.
I am the one who is disgraced and the great one.
“Pain and Pleasure occur only in consciousness and exist only there.”
One of my absolute favorite authors of all time is Mr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (…I know very hard to read and pronounce last name, but he is a modern-day genius) all his life researched and crystallized the science of living happier and more creative lives.
Mr. Csikszentmihalyi is a world renown expert in creativity and happiness as well as a philosopher and a scientist, whose studies of the “FLOW” process were used everywhere from developing corporate leadership to programming new computer games.
At one point I bought several copies of his book “The Flow” and was handing them out to my closest friends. It is an amazing eye opener book!
Here I would bring some of my favorite quotes from him:
“We are always getting to live, as Ralph Waldo Emerson used to say, but never living. Or as poor Frances learned in the children’s story, it is always bread and jam tomorrow, never bread and jam today.”
“Repression is not the way to virtue. When people restrain themselves out of fear, their lives are by necessity diminished. Only through freely chosen discipline can life be enjoyed and still kept within the bounds of reason.”
“The names we use to describe personality traits – such as extrovert, high achiever, or paranoid – refer to the specific patterns people have used to structure their attention. At the same party, the extrovert will seek out and enjoy interactions with others, the high achiever will look for useful business contacts, and the paranoid will be on guard for signs of danger he must avoid. Attention can be invested in innumerable ways, ways that can make life either rich or miserable.”
“It is when we act freely, for the sake of the action itself rather than for ulterior motives, that we learn to become more than what we were. When we choose a goal and invest ourselves in it to the limits of concentration, whatever we do will be enjoyable. And once we have tasted this joy, we will redouble our efforts to taste it again. This is the way the self grows.”
Hope you will give his books a try, especially the “Flow.” It can hold the key for your happiness
At Beverly Hilton before the Otis Students’ Fashion Show.
Otis has been my second home since I moved to Los Angeles. First for 3 years as a student and then for almost 7 years as an Instructor. Annual Otis Fashion Shows make me feel like I am visiting my family! So many people dear to my heart and of course fabulous (fashion mom) Rosemary Brantley!
This year’s show started in a really cool way, with clothes inspired by Disney’s new movie “Monsters University”: kids’ clothes, parents’ clothes, students’ clothes!…Clothes for the entire family that you can jump and dance and run around in.
Some other highlights included: garden wedding dresses …
But the true gem and highlight of the show was a gemstone colored velvet collection crystallized with Swarovski crystals and produced under Bob Mackie’s mentorship.
OMG!..What a breathtaking scene it was! Like being a child and watching a Glam Hollywood Movie for the first time and having goosebumps all over my skin! …I could not help myself…
I really wanted those dresses!…All of them!…but especially the very last one…with Crystals on the tulle!..
I want to have that and then worry about where to wear that number!
…aren’t these amazing?
